Do you know the best part about getting ready for a move besides having your family members arrive at your hosue to pack because they know how easily you lose focus when there’s a new Harry Potter book to read? You find your lost, lonely sock! See? It’s quite happy to be saved from the yarn bins of death.
(Notice said yarn bins of death. The best yarn to be given away in droves to blog contest winners, good & okay yarn to be sold at upcoming yard sale, some yarn to be kept to finish UFO’s mothers find in yarn bins and demand to have finished for them, and other yarns to be kept for further purposes to be discovered and named later. Most will not return to the yarn bins. Oh. There’s more yarn too. Probably more than in the yarn bins, but SHH! Don’t tell Mom!)

Ah ha! I even remember the details. I might have posted somewhere in the past about the beginning of these socks, but I do know that I finished the first one around May of 2005.
Pattern: In Your Shoes Ankle Socks, Crochet me
Yarn: Cascade Fixation
Color: Long Since Discontinued (long since threw away the wrapper too)
Hook: Crystal Palace Bamboo Size “G” (no mm listed)
Off to finish Sock #2 while watching Deadwood Season 3, Episode 7 “Unauthorized Cinnamon”.

I came back from vacation to find that yet again, I’d gone over my bandwidth usage for the month, so I set to work getting a new host with larger bandwidth allowances. It was time for renewal anyway. Anyhoo. I uploaded my database from my last save, so I’ve lost posts from April - July. Argh! I’m working on getting the rest, but I just wanted to post to say that I am still alive!
I do have blog contest winners to announce! I’ve got to revisit my rss feeds to remind myself of the questions. I have my comments emailed to me, so I have a record of those to work from. Look from an email from me soon to get your addresses and I will get your packages mailed out!
Question 1: What time & date will we arrive at our destination? Our actual arrival was on the 14th at 6:30 pm. The closest was Pink with the 14th at 8:10 pm.
Question 2: What movie is this quote from? “I’m doing what Ned does. I’m temping.” School of Rock! My two mini-rock stars love that movie. The winner is Tutorgal!
Question 3: If you were given 10 balls of various types of yarn and you knew that at least two balls would be Lion Brand Fisherman’s Wool, and at least one would be a novelty yarn, what would you make with it? Assume that you’d have a minimum of 1000 yards of yarn.
The winner is Deneen!
I’m off to make a chicken or two while watching a few episodes of Deadwood Season 3, if I can find my way out of the maze of boxes……..

We’re heading out today on a road trip. The longest road trip taken yet by the family with both girls. What better way to start our vacation than to have a blog contest, right?
The rules:
The contest runs from Friday, July 13, 2007 through Monday, July 23, 2007. Any comments made on this post or any posts made on this blog between those two dates that satisfy all of the requirements to be listed below, are eligible for the contest.
Answer all of the questions below.
The questions:
- We are travelling from Houston, Texas, via Dallas, Texas, to Big Timber, Montana. According to Yahoo! Maps and Mapquest, it will take anywhere from 24 to 26 hours of uninterrupted drive time. If we are leaving Houston at Noon, Dallas approximately at 6 pm (after quick dinner), what time and day will we arrive in Big Timber? The closest to the time and date wins the first blog prize!
- What movie is this quote from - “I’m doing what Ned does. I’m temping.” All correct answers will be entered into a drawing for the second blog prize.
- Why so many prizes? I have bucket loads of yarn, books, and leaflets to sort through before our big move in August and I need to share it. So, for the third blog prize, answer the following question:
If you were given 10 balls of various types of yarn and you knew that at least two balls would be Lion Brand Fisherman’s Wool, and at least one would be a novelty yarn, what would you make with it? Assume that you’d have a minimum of 1000 yards of yarn.
The winner chosen will win the bag of yarn plus extras to be named later.
Enjoy your next week! I promise to take lots of photos of Big Sky country!

I needed a little break so I snagged a meme from Noricum.
The rules: Go to Wikipedia and type in your birthday month and day only. Then post 3 events, 2 births and one holiday that occurred on your birthday, then tag 5 friends.
Birthday: November 11
Events: Good night! There’s a bazillion events on my birthday! I’m skipping the obvious 1918 one in lieu of other, lesser known ones or just interesting ones.
1. 308 - The Congress of Carnuntum: Attempting to keep peace within the Roman Empire, the leaders of the Tetrarchy declare Maxentius and Licinius to be Augusti, while rival contender Constantine I is declared Caesar of Britain and Gaul
2. 1620 - 1620 - In what is now Provincetown Harbor near Cape Cod, the Mayflower Compact is signed on the Mayflower, establishing the basic laws for the Plymouth Colony.
3. 1911 - Many cities in the U.S. midwest broke their record highs and lows on the same day as a strong cold front rolls through. (see The 11/11/11 cold wave).
Births:
1. 1974 - Leonardo DiCaprio
2. Henry IV - Holy Roman Emporer (In the mood to read Shakespeare’s play about him again….)
Holiday
Arimistice Day/Remembrance Day/Veterans Day
Being that I stole this meme from Noricum, if you’re interested, snag it in lieu of my actually tagging people.

It’s not set in stone yet, but it looks as if we might be relocating 3/4 of our family up to the great wet metroplex to the north of us to join the lonely 1/4. We’re negotiating terms right now, meaning that we have to decide if it’s a financially wise move. I’m of the opinion that it is, but I haven’t crunched the numbers yet. Basically, by me not working and combining our homes, we’ll lose over half of my paycheck in expenses alone. Realizing that has made me realize that I’m working just to pay to expenses that exist solely because I work. I would rather redirect all of those hours that I spend here pretending not to work towards networking and beginning my teaching career.
Anyhoo. We’ll have more of a sound decision between now and the 4th. In the mean time, I have organization (i.e. dumping of the junk) out the wazoo to do now so that I can start packing! AND, I’ve got to have at least one awesome meeting with two fellow crocheters here in Houston. Oh, that “organization” begins with that contest I mentioned before.
